Tour de France

World premiere in Méribel
The key stage of this 107th Tour de France will be held in Méribel
on a mountain pass reserved exclusively for cyclists

On July 15th and 16th, Méribel will welcome the riders of the Tour de France for one of the most demanding stages of this 107th edition. In effect, the arrival of the 17th stage, Grenoble – Méribel, will take place on the slopes of the resort, culminating at an altitude of 2,304 metres at the top of the famous Col de la Loze. An unprecedented and spectacular ascent on a mountain pass that is destined to become a classic of the “Grande Boucle” !

A NEW MOUNTAIN CLIMB RESERVED EXCLUSIVELY FOR CYCLISTS

Méribel has waited 46 years since the stage victory of the Frenchman Bernard Thévenet in Les Allues, in 1973, to host another stage of the Tour de France. Méribel owes this great comeback to its dynamism and the layout of the new Col de la Loze, which is revolutionising the world of cycling... Indeed, last summer, Méribel - the Heart of the 3 Valleys, and its neighbour Courchevel, opened a new pass exclusively reserved for bicycles, the Col de la Loze. This route connects the valleys of Bozel and Allues and culminates at an altitude of 2,304 metres. It is the 7th highest pass in France and the 3rd in Savoy after the Iseran and the Galibier. It is closed to motorised traffic and exclusively dedicated to cyclists. This new pass is sure to become the world reference for mountain domain cycling particularly being reserved as it is for 2-wheelers (bicycles, and electrically assisted cycles).

BEHIND THE SCENES

THIERRY CARROZ
Director of the Méribel Club des Sport

« Méribel is happy to welcome the Tour de France once again. We wanted to bring something more to the Tour... An attraction that amateur cyclists could also enjoy during the summer: riding on a mountain path without fear of encountering a car, in the middle of nature, away from any form of pollution. Our organisation team is operational and has been running this summer with the riders of the Tour de l'Avenir. The Tour de France will allow us to learn more and to get involved in the run-up to the Alpine World Ski Championships to be held in Méribel and Courchevel in 2023 »

« The Méribel stage will be the high-point of the Tour, some bends of the new Col de la Loze are as steep as those of the Mur de Huy, it is a succession of abrupt slopes, each one more brutal than the next. This new route perfectly follows the curves of the mountain... Discovering the Col de la Loze will be a thrilling experience, and not only because of the majestic panorama to be enjoyed at the top. The profile of this route is without comparison and may prove in time to be the prototype of the 21st century pass ! »
