Méribel is delighted to offer you two glacier activities for the summer: glacier hiking and mountaneering.
Glacier hiking, as the name suggests, refers to hiking on a glacier, at an altitude of more than 3,200 metres. The route is generally simple and quite flat. You can, for example, easily climb to Dôme de Gébroulaz (3500 m). At the summit, you will have a magnificent view of the Alps, and spot multiple crevasses on route. This activity is open to groups with 5-6 people maximum. Perfect for a lovely day with the family (children from the age of 10 years) or amongst friends!
How does such a day pan out? You have to get up early to reach the summits! The departure point is Moutiers at about 5- 5:30 a.m. in the direction of Val Thorens. The departure on foot is from Val Thorens in the range of 2,500 to 2,600 m of altitude. After walking for an hour, we will equip ourselves with studs and get the poles-ice axes ready. We will set off climbing for 3 and a half hours and a two hour descent. We will return to Moutiers by car at about 3 p.m. The other option is to spend the night in a refuge with the guide and share a meal with him. The departure is roughly at the same time in the direction of Pralognan with summits which stand at over 3,200 m of altitude.
What is there to eat?! You can eat your picnic, right close by to nature, on the glacier.
How can I equip myself? Two boutiques at Méribel allow you to hire the equipment you need for mountaneering and glacier hiking. Sport boutique and La Varappe offer stud, ice axe and harness hire. Wear hiking boots to avoid losing your studs!
See you soon on the glaciers!
Closed on Saturday.
From 9am to 12:30 pm and from 3pm to 7pm.
