Become King or Queen of Méribel for the day - and all the following year - with the second King of Méribel event on Sunday 16 July from 8.30am!
Take part in this unprecedented gravity mountain bike challenge, held around the resort on one day. The principle? Compete as an individual in the 12 events, each accumulating a number of points. You choose in what order you want to tackle the events. The rider who gains the highest number of points will win the day, being crowned King or Queen of Méribel, holding the title all season – until the next event!

Take part in this new gravity mountain bike challenge, held throughout the resort on one day. The principle? Compete as an individual in the 12 events, each accumulating a number of points. You choose in what order you want to tackle the events. They take place throughout the day on Sunday 16 July but on Saturday 15 July you can try out certain events and attend the opening party “Le Pot du Roi” (The King’s Drink) where last year’s winners will welcome you to a royally festive party! The riders gaining the highest number of points will win and be crowned King and Queen of Méribel, titles they will carry all season – until the next event!
The programme of this 100% downhill mountain biking challenge consists of:
2 timed downhills
Speed track = timed cross country / obstacle course (Mottaret)
Flying kilometre = speed event
Timed slalom (Mottaret)
Big Air Bag = jump event (Chaudanne)
Pump track = course with wooden elements (Chaudanne)
Ride up the impossible keep = climb the farthest and highest without putting a foot to the ground on the legendary Roc de Fer course.
Malcombes Four cross = 4X course + Vallet puzzle
Ice line = timed event on the ice-rink
Le wheeling = wheelie as far as possible
Photocall (on the slopes/fancy dress)
Don’t be intimidated by the names of these events. Cycling instructors from the French Federation will be on hand to help those who need it.

From 2pm Entries/collect number bibs (Chaudanne tent)
- Free training on the Air Bag Jump and Pump track
- Discover the King’s throne: photocall
6pm – 8pm Le Pot du Roi (The King’s Drink): live music, drinks from the horn, first drink free, food and drinks (sausages cooked over a fire). Last year’s winners will welcome you to a royally festive party! (Free drink for all competitors).
Sunday 16 July
8am – 10am Collect number bibs (Chaudanne)
8.30 – Briefing and breakfast at the King’s village
9.00am Lifts open
9am to 4.30pm The events
11.30am – 3pm The Royal Court Banquet: buffet and barbeque whole lamb
4.30pm Meet at the Olympic Centre for the final event (Ice Line)
6pm – Crowning of the King and Queen (prize giving & podium)
Obligatory equipment: full face helmet, full gloves, knee-protectors. Highly recommended: back protector (or, failing that, a backpack), elbow protectors.
Minimum age 12 years, with parental consent. Children between 12 and 16 must be accompanied by an adult throughout the event.
FOR ALL LEVELS AND ALL AGES.
Qualified French cycling instructors will be present at the different events to offer training and practice.
It is recommended to have a mountain bike with sufficient travel in the suspension (minimum 140 front and rear).
Break time: the time given to you to complete all the events includes a break of around 1 hour. If you find you are running short of time, it is up to you to adapt your schedule accordingly.
Snacks: refreshments are provided at strategic points to help keep your energy levels up.
Bike wash points: Méribel les Allues/Méribel la Chaudanne/Méribel-Mottaret.
Equipment: in addition to riders’ equipment, it is strongly recommended you use a mountain bike with full suspension (front and rear) with a good amount of travel. To learn more, study Enduro, Freeride and Downhill bikes.
We recommend you take advantage of our special packages which offer you reduced-price activities from Friday to Sunday, or to arrive on Saturday in time to collect your plate number, have a whole evening to prepare and make the most of the resort and its Bike Park.
